Wolf moon on the 13th, then a week of stars, crazy-bright moonlight, and chilly.
Looking into our local "SERVICES" <~> here:
Somehow, the shortcomings of this town can become forgotten with plusses like these clear, moon-lit night-days, and black observatory-like night skies, well ... that is, unless you need a prescription filled !
Our only pharmacy in town (Bandon Community Pharmacy) will be shutting its doors on 14 February, and the entire Coast Community Medical building and Doctor's offices on Tichenor St. will be shuttered/closed/fini ... I did not get any of the particulars, but, it was a shock to learn about it as a "last minute", almost unannounced event (on Friday).
This makes our last remaining Doctors office and Laboratory be the Curry Family Medical clinic on Madrona Street (part of the Gold Beach Hospital group).
We have no Dental, Optical, Hearing or Veterinary services here, and no Auto parts store, AAA or road services and towing are referred to North Bend towing (541) 756-4705, and Coos Bay Mast Brothers 541-271-3019, our U-Haul/rental is North of town 42970 101 (541) 332-1059, there is no Auto rental agency, Dial-a-ride, Senior bus, Uber, or cab service, but, we also do not have a traffic light (yet).
Curry County Coastal Express bus service is a savior between Florence and Crescent City, call them for their full schedule @ 541-412-8806, the Post office does not deliver packages or large flats and is closed on Saturday, UPS (in/out) is available at the Gold Beach Hardware store.
The Oregon State Police Office is at Gold Beach 541-247-6641 (with this caveat: Not regularly staffed; limited phone availability only.) My inquiry to the Port Orford Police Department resulted in the fact that we are out of the city limits and into the Curry County Sheriff's oversight, so call: 541-247-3321 or 541 247-3243 (they have one Deputy).
From a Fire coverage standpoint, our local Port Orford volunteer fire hall has us assigned in their Rural Fire District area, but, there are no longer any city ambulance EMS services ... these are now all handled by the "paid member services" of Cal-Ore Air-Life on 101, however ... it still is unclear to me about their EMS people aboard those ambulances, or what the response times are like, or how often the "air" portion of those services kicks in, or from where or how.... (feel free to update this lack of EMS information down in "comments" at the bottom).
Animal Control is again out of Gold Beach at: (541) 247-3366, and, 911 of course is our access to any and all services, our 911 office is based out of Gold Beach, not Port Orford.
As you know our WiFi and septage are both on the premises, so, since we are a full services paid RV park... I did not investigate electric or water utilities, but the last water analysis report is here: https://portorford.org/wpcontent/uploads/2024/07/2023-CCR-water-report.pdf and electric outages may be reported 24/7 by calling 1-866-352-9044.
Update: the last wifi node went up over this weekend... so, it is now a "what you have... is what you get" wifi system... report weak erratic, no signals, and we will troubleshoot them.
Delayed... but the road repairs of our ten potholes that are trying to become sinkholes "will" happen, and we "are" (still) in the process of reviewing the washer-dryer idea... we really need "comments" on your thinking and ideas, (please use the link bottom left).
Supposedly, full-sun 55-degree days, and near-to-below-freezing nights are coming all this week, (just saying), but, be prepared for a very over-active news week...
